Shrooms
Lots of talk in my life recently about the value of mushrooms. Quite frankly, I’ve been amazed at how great some mushrooms can make you feel!
I didn’t grow up having parents who ate a lot of mushrooms. They were mid-west folk and ate a lot of country food. Mushrooms weren’t really on the plate that I remember…except in casseroles that called for…GAG Cream of Mushroom soup. Believe you me when we saw that gray mass of goo we thought, oh great…slug stew. But once it was incorporated into Mom’s cooking we didn’t notice.
Then when I was about 21 my girlfriend at the time put some white button mushrooms in a salad. They were so tasty! Such a pleasant coolness to them, and they had such a nice texture.
Later I was introduced to Portobello and thought I had died and gone to Heaven. Such flavor! It was one of those moments that made me feel like I had been missing out on life itself!!!
But that was it. I hadn’t heard much about medicinal mushrooms, and outside of what Mario was always after, didn’t think too much of the psycho-active types either.
Then last year I got sick. I got sick from doing a very sweet juice feast. It was easy to do this because it was cheap and easy. Those two combos never spell out good fortune I am afraid. I drank carrot, watermelon, some green juices but for the most part it was high carbohydrate and very chilled. It broke my internal thermostat. I felt cold and clammy, damp for months. I couldn’t get warm. I was lethargic. I thought, great, a year and a half raw and now this. But what I learned was that I was doing it all wrong. According to Chinese medicine, the foods I was eating were very cooling internally. An abundance of those foods leads to imbalance.
It was mushroom capsules that turned it all around for me. Personally, I think it is irresponsible to expect somebody to maintain health from drinking chilled fruit juices solely through the winter. Ultimately, my objective was to lose weight so what I should have done was to increase my activity and continue on my raw journey. Ah, but I was tempted by the fame others had by doing juice feasts since they were all the rage. I had my butt handed to me in a sling.
The mushrooms that blessed my life first were the beautiful, loving and harmonic producing Cordycep mushroom capsules. Listen I don’t give a care if you like mushrooms or not, if you feel run down, then pick these things up! They’ll deliver the sweetest sense of well being you have felt in a long time. I could go on and talk about mineralization and what not but the fact is, I can only share what I experienced. NIRVANA.
I then discovered Reishi. I’ve left the link up because they’re such a blessing if you will. Taken together with Cordyceps they form a super powerhouse of synergy. For those who dont’ know what synergy is, take the example of the 2×4′s. Alone one 2×4 supports about, and I’m guessing here, 250 lbs before it cracks. When you put another one beside it you would think that it supported another 250 lbs right? Nope, it goes up exponentially to 1500 lbs. So to with the combo of mushroom capsules. Don’t worry they don’t taste strange either and you can be on whatever and still be ok. Read the directions though ok?
So what I’m trying to say here is that mushrooms are amazing. They’re not something that a Cheshire cat sits on, and I don’t believe that they are slimy yuck yucks that came in a can, they are miracles in and of themselves and you would really do well to open your horizons to trying them out because they can change your life for the better.
Last example: Everyone last winter came down with a horrible cold, and I mean horrible. It was virulent and unrelenting in its delivery of pain and suffering. Not only that but it took forever for people to get over it. My poor wife went through hell! But me? Even in my compromised state, all I got was a slight tickling in the back of my throat as the virus tried to get a foothold. The mushrooms anti-viral properties shut.it.down. Watch this video, it covers a lot of ground and it totally substantiates the fact that your best bet against h1n1 flu isn’t that vaccine that has pig testes and human fetal tissue in it, ..it’s Red Reishi and other medicinal mushrooms.

This guy is blowing my mind…what a genius. In this one video he raises so many potent questions and possibilities!!!
Hi Sam
Thanks for another interesting post. I bought a bottle of New Chapter Reishi Mushrooms recently and I definitely think they did me good. They're so expensive though! I bought some reishi mushroom powder from Kate Wood's Raw Living and – oh dear – it's DISGUSTING in powder form. I need to work out how to use the powder in a way that hides the taste. Perhaps I'll also buy some more New Chapter Reishi and Cordycep capsules as well and take once capsule of each for a while …
So glad you enjoyed that video! I wish I could make everyone I knew watch it!
Thanks Antony! Like so many things that are “good for us” the trade off is in flavor! I suggest making your own capsules, its really easy, kindof zen if you get me. I need to make a video on that. Glad you enjoyed those Reishi capsules. They are so great!
Sam
I LOVE learning about this. (I grew up loving Cream of Mushroom Soup…but everyone else sure thought it wasn't…hee.)
lol ID! It is good in stuff, I'll agree! Yet as a kid we were pretty visual. Generation Lucky Charm. I feel for kids now whose breakfast basically glows in the dark!
Mushrooms have always kind of freaked me out, as though they were some kind of alien life form. They're just so… weird! But still, I do find them absolutely fascinating. I'm sure Wendi will happen by here at some point. She's been doing a lot of research into immune system boosting lately because of the Lyme. I wonder what she'll think of mushrooms as part of that research.
I'd love to hear more about Wendy's research into immune system functioning. FWIW, I had systemic Lyme from 1995-1998 or so…cured it without antibiotic therapy. Have focused a lot in my life on mind-body medicine to enhance the immune system.
Have had some experiences of feeling incredible mushroom energy go quickly into my bloodstream and it felt great. Would love to learn more!
It's amazing Jim, I had no idea myself a year ago. Necessity is the mother of invention, or in this case, finding some alternative health remedies courtesy of my Naturopath! They sure do look like they are from another planet! I hope Wendi finds some really good herbs to heal!
That's fascinating Angela! I've heard a lot about chaga (sp) and am interested in that along with a mushroom similar to reishi called oregonese that grows here in the PNW. I'll let you know what I find out!
